They are an ever-changing cross-breed  of the fastest dogs .  The Alasdkan Malamute , by contrast, is "the largest and most powerful" sled dog,  and was used for heavier loads. Despite its name, there is little to no evidence that the breed originated in the historical region of Dalmatina.  Today, it is a popular family pet and many dog enthusiasts enter Dalmatians into kennel club competitions.
